A Small AVA Producing Some Big Wines
The Ribbon Ridge AVA is the smallest nested AVA within the Willamette Valley. Situated on the southwest corner of the Chehalem Mountains, Ribbon Ridge is in a class by itself as home to unusually high elevation sedimentary soil vineyard sites — a soil type that is more commonly found at low elevations within the Willamette Valley. This unique combination of elevation and silty sedimentary soil produces distinctive wines unlike any other.
In this tasting seminar we will explore the geology and personality of the Ribbon Ridge AVA, how these features conspire to create a distinctive signature in the AVA’s wines and sample some of our favorite examples of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from some of the best vineyard sites in Ribbon Ridge.
